Transparency in Government

I ran across something great today, and all Americans should check it out, especially if you've ever been dissatisfied with the lack of communication that comes from a presidential administration. It's called http://change.gov, and if it's any indication of what kind of Obama administration is to come, I think I'm in love.

In short, it's a website that posts videos, articles, policies and positions from the office of the President-elect. I've always been so disappointed with the White House website, since it does almost nothing to convey the current agenda of the President. Why shouldn't the highest office in the land have a decent, communicative website?

This is one of the biggest reasons I supported Obama, and it's one of the reasons I get so frustrated when people claim he's a bad thing for America simply because of his policies. It should be obvious to people that there are two possibilities when it comes to a commander-in-chief; the kind that crafts an agenda in secret and the kind that puts it out there for everyone to see. In the first case, you can't even decide whether or not you agree with the direction the president's chosen. At least with Obama you know what you're getting and can oppose it freely.

I know what some people are saying. It's just a website. Maybe, but I think this is just one example of how Obama is going to try and do things differently in Washington. Is he going to do everything he promised on the campaign trail? Absolutely not. No president ever does. He is, however, following up on his promise to open up government for the people again, and this is a great first step. I'm eager to see what else he does.
